A job offer

Guess what? After sending out 12 resumes and attending several interviews, I finally received a job offer and will be starting full-time work next month. The offer sounded reasonable enough but I anticipate that I will be spending less time at home taking on this new job, given that there will be a heavy workload and that the office is further away from home (read: traffic jam!). I hope this doesn't mean less blog posts! My new office is connected to a shopping mall, allowing for some recreational time as consolation in times of high work stress levels! And yes, it's still in accounting, albeit a different area of accounting. I did promise myself that if I do not get any relevant job in accounting within 3 months from the date of redundancy, then I will seek a career change. Perhaps the big guy above says it's not time for a change yet and wants me to continue in my line of academic/professional qualification. Only time will tell...

In a league of my own, seeking the unseekable

After having attended several interviews last week, I was informed that long hours are to be expected, as well as coming in on weekends without overtime pay. Just the very mention of long hours was enough to put me off and make me sound apprehensive about accepting the job, should the I be offerred the role. In my previous role, the latest I stayed until was 11pm but that was not on a regular basis (fortunately!). But at the interview, I was told that 11pm is still considered early.

If these employers expect me to conform to their expectations where the longer you stay in the office the better, then I shall bid them hasta la vista babe! Sorry, but I know what I want and it isn't an entrenched work culture of whoever stays the latest is the most hardworking. I will keep on searching until I find the right one. But as the title of this post goes, I am 'in a league of my own, seeking the unseekable...'

Clair de Lune

Lying on my bed, listening to Debussy's Clair de Lune, marvelling at the spectacular blend of colours on my bedroom wall. On the left is the computer monitor in the dark projecting blue light, while on my right is the table lamp emitting a warm orange glow. This clash of cold and warm colours creates an ambience akin to twilight - perfect for spending some moments alone, deep in thought. Perhaps, I'm thinking of a full orange moon contrasted against a cloudless night sky. Or pale moonlight reflected upon the rippled surface of the sea.
