I miss you

Have you ever experienced a time when you suddenly miss a departed soul dearly? Well, that feeling is happening to me now. Tomorrow will be exactly two months since my grandfather passed away. I wish there was a cure for missing people who have left this world. Although death is just a phase of life which each of us will have to face some day, my greatest fear is the fear of losing loved ones. Sometimes I wonder how will I go on without them.

Whitney Houston, 1963 - 2012

This morning I received news from Facebook that Whitney Houston was found dead in a hotel. Her cause of death has not been announced yet. This is sad news for me as Whitney Houston is my number one singer of all time. She is a music legend. Nobody else can match her vocal style and abilities, except perhaps Christina Aguilera.

As a tribute to Whitney, here are my top five favourite Whitney Houston songs:

1. I Have Nothing

2. I Will Always Love You

3. Run To You

4. Greatest Love of All

5. I Wanna Dance With Somebody

Today, we mourn the loss of another music legend. Rest in peace, Whitney Houston. Your music which has inspired many, will forever live on.

When I have too much free time...

I build Lego. Yes, that's right. I am an old twenty-something year old kid who still likes Lego.

Rather than waste this precious 4 day break, I got straight to work to start constructing one of my first Lego pirate sets - 6270 Forbidden Island, which was first released in 1989.

The set features 4 minifigures - Captain Redbeard, First Mate Rummey, Pirate and Imperial Soldier, an island motif base plate, a suspension bridge, a crow's nest, a trap-door leading to a prison, a cannon that actually fires, a treasure chest, a long boat with oars, Spinoza the monkey, Popsy the parrot and a shark with moving jaws.

This set provided endless hours of fun in my world of imagination as I pretended that the pirates defended their hideout from intruders and battled a man-eating shark that patrolled the waters surrounding their tiny island. Captain Redbeard would scour the surroundings from the crow's nest and would order his crew to fire the cannon at any intruding vessels that posed a threat to his secret hideout. Perhaps Captain Redbeard was guarding all his buried treasure.

Long weekend ahead

It's Friday again and it's the last working day before another long weekend (4 days to be exact). I've completed my work for the morning and I'm in a holiday mood already. I hope my manager doesn't assign me any new major work before we go off for a break.

This holiday I am planning to build some Lego models and photograph them. I have a sizeable Lego collection (combined with my brother's) all stacked up in my brother's cupbaord in his bedroom. I particularly like collecting the minifigures that come with each set. Our collection ranges from pirates to knights, fire engine, spaceships, just to name a few. We even have the licensed Lego themes such as Star Wars and Harry Potter. I'm thinking of starting a Pirates of the Caribbean collection. The 4184 The Black Pearl set looks so tempting...
